Opening Session – Sunday 22 July

The AIDS 2012 Opening Session is on Sunday, 22 July, 19:00–21:00, in Session Room 1.

This year the Opening Session will follow a cultural programme from 18:00 – 19:00, where delegates will be able to see an opening blessing by in indigenous community group, an award presentation by Sharon Stone, film debuts, and a live music performance from the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington, D.C..

For the Opening Session, we are pleased to confirm speeches from Annah Sango, Zimbabwe, Congresswoman Barbara Lee, Michel Sidibé, UNAIDS and many more. Delegates are encouraged to arrive early for the Opening Session, as seating will be limited. Doors will open at 17:30.

Please note the Mount Vernon Sq./7th St-Convention Center metro station may be close on Sunday in case personalities who require a high level of security measures attend the Opening Session. In such case, the nearest open metro station will be Gallery Place (Chinatown) on the yellow, green and red lines. We encourage delegates to check the AIDS 2012 website regularly as information will be posted there.
